Mother's Day, Shmother's Day! National Mom's Nite Out Is My Kinda Holiday!
Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 04:49AM Ahh...Mother's day. The typical kitchy "hallmark holiday."
The homemade crafts. The cards. The phone calls. The brunches...
It's all so...last millennia.
And we're so...NOT!
Therefore, it is completely appropriate and quite ingenious that Maria Bailey and her team at NewBaby.com and BluesuitMom.com came up a new way for the Twitter generation to honor and celebrate motherhood (by acknowledging that mother's need a BREAK once-in-a-while!)
This Thursday May 7th is the first National Mom's Nite Out! (Look out America, mom’s taking the night off!) This special night will include special events, virtual communal celebrations and the common goal of celebrating motherhood. More than 200 mom bloggers, 50 mom websites, and a dozen companies have committed to giving Moms a well-deserved night off.
“Our goal in hosting National Mom's Nite Out is to unite Moms all over the country prior to Mother’s Day,” says Maria Bailey, Author of “The Ultimate Mom Book” (HCI, 2009) and Host of Mom Talk Radio. “Most moms spend Mother’s Day taking care of the other mothers in their lives so we hope to give moms a well deserved night off right before Mother's Day."
The evening will consist of over 400 local events held across the country, as well mom-organized parties and virtual activities. You can find out if there is an event in your area here. But don't worry, even if you don't live near one of the local events, there's still plenty for you to celebrate. To allow moms everywhere to participate, mothers will be invited to throw their own Mom’s Nite Out event by downloading party ideas and elements from the "National Mom’s Nite Out website, www.momsniteout.com. On the evening of the event, thousands of moms will be socializing virtually through online chats, Skype and Twitter tweet-ups. You can also watch parties across America on Newbaby.com or MomTV.com. On Twitter you can be a part of the fun at #mno-09 where there will be prizes!
Official Drink: Mamatini, Momopolitan and Mamajitos
Official Food: Chocolate
Finally, a national holiday I could really get excited about!
I'll be following the evening's events online. Let me know how you'll be celebrating this *important* National Holiday!
