A Simple Gardening Solution For Busy Moms
Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 05:10PM Confession time again. (Don't you just love it when I show you how imperfect I am?)
In addition to be "domestically challenged" (i.e. I HATE TO CLEAN), I am also totally incompetent when it comes to gardening. I just don't know a darn thing about it. And while I think I might like it in theory, I don't want to take the time to learn, I'd rather be working on this website!
I'm so embarrased to admit this...but...here goes...
When I bought my house, it came with and absolutely BEAUTIFUL garden. The woman who lived here before be had a green thumb TIMES 10! It's as if she timed everything perfectly so that some beautiful flower is blooming all the time, all spring and summer long.
After living here two years, we've destroyed it -- grass and all.
I mean, the plants are still there...but I have not trimmed ANYTHING and it's all overgrown. My beloved left the sukkah up for over a year and the grass underneath is gone and the earth is uneven. I tried to plant an herb garden with a friend, but we made a mistake by taking out some stake-like thingys that were holding up some long stem flowers. The flowers grew over the herbs & and I never took care of it. All in all - It looks pretty yucky out there.
This year, I'm going to hire someone to clean up the garden (though I'm afraid it will cost an arm and a leg because there is so much work to be done!) And I still want an herb garden, but I'm almost afraid to try!
Then my friend told me about http://www.squarefootgardening.com -- Oh thank goodness. A simple step-by-step method I can try. I thought you might like it too! Enjoy...
And if you have any other resources about "gardening for the clueless" - please let me know by leaving a comment!

Might I suggest my solution to wanting to have fresh herbs for cooking? I have a couple of clay pots that I keep on my kitchen counter that have some basil, chives etc. in them. I just keep cutting them back each time I use some. Works good for me and totally manageable:) Even so, I'm checking out your www.squarefootgardening.com idea.
