A Solution for you to keep up with your Favorite blogs without overloading your email inbox - Part One
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:41PM Do you love this, and other mom blogs? I know I do! But, I don't want to get an email everytime my favorite blog-writers post an entry -- my inbox gets cluttered enough as it is! So...I use a "Feedreader" to keep up with my favorite blogs.
Feedreaders are set up to periodically check for new items in the Blog Feeds (also known as RSS Feeds) that you are subscibed to, commonly once every hour. In other words, the news comes to you, rather than you having to go to the news. This way, instead of browsing multiple sites to find information of interest, blog headlines are delivered directly to your Feedreader. And they are consolidated in a way that's easy to scan periodically throughout the day. When a headline interests you, just click and go directly to the source. This saves a tremendous amount of time.Additionally, you avoid all the non-new information on a web page, including the ads, menus, etc.
In other words, A Feedreader is just like TIVO. Just set it up to "record" your favorite blogs -- and you can access them whenever you are ready. And just like TIVO -- you don't need to figure out the technology behind how it works in order to use it -- you just have to set it up right and enjoy your favorite programs (or, in this case, blogs) on your own time!
There are basicallly two types of Feedreaders: Desktop based Feedreaders and Web based Feedreaders. Web Based Feedreaders include BlogExpress, SharpReader, FeedReader, NetNewsWire and Bloglines. To the best of my knowledge, Google & Yahoo are the most popular web-based feedreaders. I use and recommend the Yahoo! Web-based Feedreader because it offers a Feedreader plus other fun & useful stuff.
Because I am most familiar with the Yahoo! Feedreader In Part 2 of this entry, I'm going to show you how to create one for yourself, and then tell you some fun ways you can use it! So...stay tuned to find out how you can "subscribe" to this blog, and others -- and enjoy them in your own time, without filling up your inbox!
